New to Cheerleading?
Begin with the FUNdamentals of cheerleading at the SPIRIT BARN. Learn basic skills such as motions, jumps, cheers and dances as you progress from Cheer 1 to Cheer 4.

Cheer and Tumbling Descriptions

Pre-cheer (ages 4-6)
This class is geared toward children interested in the sport of cheerleading. It is an introductory-­class that incorporates basic cheerleading fundamentals including introduction to jumps, cheers, basic cheerleading motions, tumbling skills such as forward roll and cartwheel. Class meets once per week for one hour.
Prerequisite Skills: None
Fees: $55/month plus yearly registration fee

Cheer I
This class is geared toward teaching the developing cheerleader proper jump techniques and developing jumps such as t-jumps, tuck jumps and toe touches. Basic cheers and motions including learning counts and working with music are taught. Tumbling skills included at this level are: forward roll, backward roll, handstand and back handspring drills. Class meets once per week for one hour.
Prerequisite Skills: Student must be able to focus for one hour of instruction.
Fees: $55/month plus yearly registration

Cheer II
This class includes learning more advanced jumps such as toe touch, front hurdler and the pike. Jump drills for enhancing and perfecting the jump will be incorporated These drills include v­ups and hip-flexor strengthening drills. Level II cheers and motions will be taught as well as tumbling skills such as handstand, back handspring drills and back handspring. Incorporation of jumps and tumbling into cheer and dance will also be introduced.
Prerequisite Skills: Student is able to perform motions from Cheer I and is able to jump with counts. The student should have a good cartwheel, forward roll and backward roll and have back handspring drills accomplished as an indicator of readiness to work on back handspring.
Fees: $55/month plus yearly registration fee
                                                        

Cheer III
This class continues to work on jumps such as the toe touch, front hurdler and pike as well as
jump drills. Cheers and motions become more advanced at this level. Tumbling will include back handsprings, back handspring series and round-off back handspring series. Back tuck technique and drills will be introduced in this level as well as continual work with incorporation of jumps and tumbling into cheer.
Prerequisite Skills: Student has improved motions and jumps; is able to incorporate jumps and tumbling into cheer, can do back handspring with light spot.
Fees: $55/month plus yearly registration fee

Beginning Tumbling
This class offers basic skills needed to complete a cartwheel and round-off. Drills will be included for back handsprings. Classes include warm-up, stretching, drills and tumbling. Class meets once per week for one hour.
Prerequisite Skills: None
Fees: $55/month plus yearly registration fee

Intermediate Tumbling
This class covers basic skills needed to accomplish back handspring, round off back handspring, back handspring series and begin to cover back tuck techniques. Each class will include warm­up, stretching, drills and tumbling. Class meets once per week for one hour.
Prerequisite Skills: Student has strong cartwheel and round-off, back handspring drills indicate readiness to perform back handspring.
Fees: $55/month plus yearly registration fee

Advanced Tumbling
This class covers skills needed to accomplish a back tuck, back handspring - back tuck, round­off back handspring - back tuck, round-off tuck, layout, full and double full. Each class includes warm-up, stretching, drills and tumbling. Class meets once per week for one hour.
Prerequisite Skills: Student must have strong back handspring, round-off back handspring and can perform series.
Fees: $55/month plus yearly registration fee
